I can still remember my first dove. I had just pasted my hunters safety course and my Dad bought me a .20 gauge Remington pump. We headed out dove hunting -I had been many times with my dad before, but just as the bird dog.. This was the first time I was able to hunt. We had a nice spot around a water hole were in the evening, the doves would come to drink. I sat and waited for them to come were I was and then I saw one coming my way. I was very still so that it would not get Scarred away. As it came closer and closer, I waited looking down the barrel of my new gun. When I was sure that It was in range, I shoot and to my surprise I had hit it! My dad was happy but almost falling over laughing he said... “that dove was trying to land on the barrel of your gun”, and that explained why all was left was feathers and feet, but I did not miss, in time I learned to gauge distance...
